The Crystal Ladder is a story that comes from Golova’s personal struggle with bureaucracy and legal permission to stay where she wants to and reflects on the limitations
and boundaries that are met when applying for a visa. The characters Golova created transport us through this struggle of belonging, which is often fought by outsiders who are in fact already “on the inside”, but are made to prove their value within a system of complex labyrinths, language barriers and paper trails.
