Phelim Hoey, La Machine
With La Machine, Hoey explores
his relationship to his own body after being diagnosed with MS in 2011. The sculptural photographs address themes of autonomy and independence and how those shape our feelings of identity, belonging and alienation. To what extent our bodies are an extension of our being or a mere tool of functionality is obscure, but when faced with physical limitations, the interlaced relation between body and self becomes apparent.
